About Kirsten

New Zealand-born Kirsten Ellis is an author and journalist who grew up in Auckland. She worked in Hong Kong as a reporter and features writer for the South China Morning Post, continuing as a freelance correspondent for the paper when she moved to New Delhi. Having spent seven years living in Asia, she then lived and worked in Cyprus and New York. Her travel writing includes a book on Cuba which was runner-up for the Travelex/Observer Travel Writer of the Year award and guidebooks covering India, the Maldives, the Philippines and New Zealand.

Kirsten Ellis spent some time working as a correspondent in Mexico for World Eye Reports and as the co-ordinator of the Sustainable Small Islands Project for EarthVoice in Washington D.C. She has also written for Vogue, Tatler, Discovery, The Australian and the Explorer’s Journal.

She is married to the writer and broadcaster Michael Carlson and they have a young son.

Star of the Morning is her first biography. Researching this book took her back to Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey from the south of England where she now lives.

She is currently working on an historical novel.
